William Owen Obituary

William Michael "Mike" Owen, born September 21, 1953, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on September 15th, 2024. He was 70 years old. Mike loved Oklahoma with all his heart, and it was always his home.

Mike is survived by his three beloved daughters: Adrian Owen Jones, Caroline Elizabeth Lowery, and Savannah Mikayla Owen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Drew Owen, Sr. and Betty Joe "BJ" Owen, and his siblings Harold Drew Owen, Jr. "Bud", and Theresa Jean McDaniels.

A proud alumnus of John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, Mike later attended Oklahoma State University, pursuing a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries. This education laid the foundation for his lifelong passion for the outdoors. Mike was renowned for his exceptional fishing skills, catching record-sized bass and crappie that became the stuff of local legend.

Mike's love for nature extended beyond personal pursuits. He served as an officer in the Oklahoma Wildlife Federation, an organization founded by his father, carrying on a family legacy of conservation. His commitment to wildlife preservation was further exemplified by his membership in the Edmond Fish and Game Commission.

An ardent dog lover, Mike centered his family life around training hunting dogs, instilling a deep respect and love for animals in his daughters. His passion for nurturing wildlife and domestic animals was a defining aspect of his character.

Mike Owen lived life to the fullest, surviving being shot, stabbed, and even outrunning a tornado, living to tell local news about it. Those who knew Mike weren't surprised by his resilience – he possessed an indomitable will and effusive optimism. Every morning before school, he had his daughters recite, "Act enthusiastic, and you'll be enthusiastic!"

Beyond his wild adventures, Mike was a man of compassion and quiet generosity. He ran a food bank supply, collecting surplus and damaged goods from grocery stores and distributing them to food banks in Luther and Edmond. He was known for his secret acts of kindness - leaving warm meals, repairing cars, or providing extra cash for those in need, always without seeking recognition.

In accordance with Mike's wishes, the family will forgo a traditional funeral service. Instead, a private ceremony will be held at his favorite fishing spot on his birthday, Sept. 21st. Mike's love for nature and his adventurous spirit will be honored in this intimate celebration of his life, surrounded by the outdoors he cherished, the music that brought him joy, and the family he loved.

The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this time. Those wishing to honor Mike's memory are encouraged to spend time in nature, extend a helping hand to someone in need, or simply share a story about Mike with those who loved him.
