Joy Ross “Butch” Jones, Jr was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma on April 18, 1944 to Joy Ross Jones, Sr and Neva Little Jones. He passed into Heaven on March 22, 2026 in Guthrie, Oklahoma surrounded by family and friends, including his three “Prized Pups” - Sheila, Julie and Magnolia. If he could have had his way, he would have made his final journey driving an 18-wheeler, rolling steady through Heaven’s gates.
Known as Butch by nearly everyone, he spent years on the road as a truck driver, traveling across the country, collecting stories, miles and experiences that shaped who he was, facing his share of struggles and consequences along the way. His journey was not always easy, nor was it always easy for those who lovedhim. He will be remembered not for perfection, but for being human – for the ways he tried, the ways he faltered, and the mark he left on those who knew him best.
Through every high and low, one thing remained certain – his daughters. They are, in many ways, the truest expression of his life’s story. Through them lives a legacy not just of memory, but of growth, resilience, and hard-earned wisdom. The lessons he imparted – sometimes intentionally, sometimes not – helped shape them into strong, capable women who carry forward not only what was given, but what they chose to make from it.
In the end, he was theirs and they were his – and that is where his story finds its meaning.
Butch was proceeded in death by his parents, Joy Ross, Sr and Juanita (Skeeter) Jones and Leonard and Neva (Little) Meier, his brother James Meier, and his dear wife Jane Jones. He leaves behind sisters Tammy Jones and Jane Meier, brother Mickey Jones, and his beloved partner, Marilyn Powell.
His daughters and their families include Sheila Jones Buettner Leake (husband Tony) and her children and grandchildren: Jade and sons Grayson, Gunner and Kase; Paden and daughter Elora; and Magnolia and her son Wylie Tate; Cathy Jones Buettner Lacy (husband Rudy) and her son Robbie, his wife Megan and daughters Karsyn and Wyatt; Julie Joylynne Jones and her children Kailey (husband Kamyn) and daughter Andie; Kaleband Slade. He also leaves daughter Jesse Lynn Jones of the state of Washington, nephews Matthew Jones and Joshua Jones and niece Desiree Jones Nifong and his much loved Willow Creek family.
