Johannah Greer (Lander) Turner 12/28/1951 to 3/8/2024
Johannah Greer Lander was born in Pascagoula, MS to Gilbert and JoAnn Lander on December 28, 1951. She was the oldest of 4 children and “The Big Sister”. The family relocated to Pine Bluff, Arkansas before Greer started school. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1970 and attended the Gulf Coast Junior College in Perkingston, MS and Bethel College in McKenzie, TN. Greer lived in Arkansas, Washington State and Oklahoma for much of her life. But she definitely left her heart on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. She was always so happy to visit family and friends and to spend time near the water.
Around 2007 Greer moved to Oklahoma City to live with and care for our aging parents. She cared for them until their deaths.
Greer was always a hard worker. She gave up the job she loved at Shipwreck Beads in Olympia, Washington in order to care for our parents. She was also a jewelry maker, a landscaper, a gardener, a printer, a waitress, certified nurse aide, department store clerk, and a clerk at 7-11. Even after retirement she worked at Mutt’s Hot Dogs and her favorite place of all, The Patty Wagon! She worked there until 2021.
Greer never met a stranger! She was authentic, joyful, irreverent, boisterous, sassy and loving. She loved her family, her books, her jewelry, music, gardening, dressing up, dancing, PBS, James Taylor and Jimmy Buffett!
Greer, 72, passed away peacefully at her home 11 days after a terminal diagnosis of widespread cancer. She faced this devastating news with the same courage, faith and positivity that she showed her whole life. She asked for her family. And they came in from several states! And she asked to go Home. And she did. Greer was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
Greer is survived by her 2 children: Samuel “Fritz” Stringfellow (Teresa) of Olympia, WA.; Hannah Bull (Andy) of Hastings, NE (Enid, OK); 4 grandchildren: Samantha Kniss (Bryson), Pejo Bull, Wyatt Benfeild and Fynnegan Detray. She is also survived by her sisters, Kathy Gilliam (Larry) and Evette Hurd; and brother, Michael Lander (Theresa). She also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will dearly miss her.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff of Integris Baptist Medical Center - Portland Avenue and Excell Hospice for the care given to Greer and her entire family.
A celebration of Greer’s life will be held March 31st at The Blue Door at 2805 N. McKinley Ave in Oklahoma City.
Donations can be made to the local PBS affiliate, OETA (Oklahoma Educational Television Authority).
