Jean Jack Obituary

Loura Jean Chalfant Jack was born January 8th, 1929,in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. She passed from this life May 26th, 2024, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lowe Chalfant and Loura Amy Warren Chalfant, her three dear brothers, J. Warren, Billy, and Wesley Chalfant, her husband, James Roland Jack, and her son, Clayton Chalfant Jack.

Jean graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Chi Omega fraternity, which proved to be a lifelong involvement. She earned her degree in vocal music education; and also played the clarinet, violin and piano. While attending the University, Jean met her husband of 53 years. Thecouple married on December 24, 1950. They made their home in Sulphur, where Jean taught English to generations of students and raised her family. After her retirement, Jean continued to substitute teach until she was 90 years old. Her warm accepting manner and sense of humor caused her students to love and revere her as much as she did them.

Jean taught private piano and voice lessons in her home and was called upon to sing for special occasions, as well as being a faithful member of her church choir. She loved to dance, particularly to big band era music and Bob Wills. On more than one occasion, she might have been seen at the W.H. Corral, even though this was frowned upon by the school administration. She was an avid bridge player, loved to read, and a lifelong member of P.E.O.  Nothing could make her flash her beautiful smile more than hearing a good joke, particularly one told by her colleague, Paul Walsh. Jean loved her students, loved living in a small town, and loved Sulphur dearly.

She is survived by, daughter, Rosemary Jack Talbott (Rick), son, J. Wesley Jack (Alicia), daughter, Amy Claire Jack, daughter-in-law, Julie Jack, grandchildren, Joanna John (Travis), Madeline Little (Patrick), J. Rick Talbott (Ethan), William Talbott (Lauren), and Jean Talbott, great-grandchildren, Phoenix John, Brock John, Bronson Talbott, and many beloved nieces and nephews, grands and great grands in whom she maintained a lively interest. She is also survived by her dearest friends Kathleen Swartz and Kelly Aaron, and others, too many to mention. The family is very grateful for the kind attentions of Arbuckle Hospital staff, Good Shepard Hospice, and her caregivers in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Jean C. Jack Scholarship Fund for Sulphur High School graduates at the University of Oklahoma.
