Eula Faye Martin
Born September 3, 1947 and died peacefully at home on October 17, 2024.
Eula loved to laugh and make the people around her do the same. She was most proud of her children, grand children and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with family, both immediate and extended, and her many friends.
She was born in Claremore, Oklahoma to William H (Bill) Martin and Eula Gladys (Friend) Martin. Eula often recalled how her parents loved her and her siblings unconditionally. She told stories of her and her three siblings playing and working at their small family store, Twin Bridges Grocery near Delaware, Okla. when she was a little girl. She had many stories of growing up in both Oklahoma and Kansas.
School for Eula started first through fourth grade in Childers School near Nowata, Oklahoma. Fifth and sixth grades were spent in Eureka, Kansas, while seventh and eighth grades were at Tonovay in the same area. Eula spent her freshman year in Quay School and finished high school as a 1965 graduate of Yale High School. Eula went on to receive a certificate and license to practice cosmetology from Stillwater Beauty College in 1966 where she met her forever “Lil’ Friend”, Jeanie (Nemec) McNabb. The two shared countless adventures and lots of laughs.
Through that friendship, Eula met and eventually married, Oliver Earl Hixson on August 13, 1966. The couple had three girls Kristi, Angie and Kathy. Although the family did not stay together, the couple enjoyed holidays and grandchildren together.
While Eula started her career as a cosmetologist owning and operating her own salon, “Eula’s Swirl n’ Curl” in Yale, Oklahoma, she worked a variety of odd jobs but eventually Eula’s interest turned to written communication. Her first job in the newspaper business was with the Nowata Star, in Nowata. She went on to work in several newspaper agencies and eventually owned and operated her own newspaper, the TriState Tribune in Picher, Okla. This career ended when Eula moved back to the Cushing area to be near family. She grew to love working with the public in several different convenient stores in Yale and Cushing areas. Eula retired from Bill’s EZ Out in Cushing.
Eula was a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. At nine years old she professed her faith in Christ and was baptized. As an adult, she rededicated her life to Christ and was baptized on November 6, 2011 in what she considered her home church, Town and Country Christian Church in Yale.
Eula was a creative person who loved to use her hands. She had many hobbies that displayed her crafting abilities such as paintings, quilting and other sewing projects, countless jewelry designs, embroidery, and modeling clay pieces. She was an avid bowler in her younger years when she went to state competitions several years with her bowling team. She also enjoyed shooting guns, fishing, photography and watching her beloved basketball. She was sure to talk smack to anyone that supported a team playing against her favorite OKC Thunder. Her greatest interest though, was cheering on her grandchildren in whatever sport or event they participated. “Mamaw” will always be remembered for cheering the loudest and wearing whatever colors to support her grandchildren’s teams or organizations.
Eula was preceded in death by her parents as well as her daughter, Angelia Lea (Hixson) Brown of Catoosa, Oklahoma, son in law Tracy Nicholas of Cushing, sister and brother in law Edith and Del Skinner of Rose Hill, Ks, and brother in law Ralph Lilly of El Dorado, Ks. She is survived by her daughter Kristi Nicholas of Cushing, daughter and son in law Kathy and Andy Addis of Hutchinson, Ks along with grandchildren Dylan and Dalton Nicholas, Krystan and Matthew Brasel of Cushing; Noah and Joy Addis of Hutchinson, Ks and Nathan and Haley Addis of McPherson, Ks along with her pride and joys great grandchildren Faylea Kristeen and Tayler Laraine Brasel of Cushing and Wilhelm Andrew Addis of Hutchinson, Ks.
